Hey everyone, this is Adam, and today I'm going to be showing you a really quick tutorial on how to install Figma plugins and uninstall Figma plugins in the new Figma UI ("UI3") update that just came out in 2024.
To get started, all we need to do is open up a Figma file. You can do that in the browser or in the Figma desktop app. Then, you want to go down to the bottom toolbar where it says "Actions" and click on that little icon. You might remember this icon used to be at the top in the header. There used to be a header bar up here where the "Actions" button, which looked like this, was called "Resources." Now, this has been renamed to "Actions," but it does the same thing. Click on this little "Actions" button down here, and then at the top, you'll notice that there's a "Plugins & widgets" tab. Click on that "Plugins & widgets" tab.
You can see here I'm starting from scratch, so I don't have any Figma plugins installed at the moment. It's going to give me some suggested Figma plugins instead of showing my Figma plugins list. What I want to do is search for the Figma plugin that I know I want to use. You can search for the Figma plugin name directly in here, and that's going to pop up any results in the Figma Community. Then, you can go ahead and click on the Figma plugin. Down the bottom here, underneath the description, you can see there's a button called "Save." Click on that "Save" button, and that's going to automatically add it to your Figma plugins list.
To run the Figma plugin, go back to your canvas, right-click anywhere, go down to "Plugins," and then under "Saved plugins," you'll see the Figma plugin that we just added. Click on that Figma plugin name to run it, and that's going to automatically fire up the Figma plugin that we just saved.
To remove the Figma plugin, that's really easy as well. Go back to that "Actions" menu, click on the little "Actions" button down there, then switch into the "Plugins & widgets" tab again. Click on the little three dots icon next to the Figma plugin name that you've already saved. Hover over the Figma plugin name, hover over the three dots, and click on that. Then, click on the little "Remove" item. Click on "Remove," and that's going to remove it from our Figma plugin list and our Figma account. You can see there it's been removed. If we go to our right-click menu now, go down to Figma plugins, you can see that the Figma plugin has been removed.
Again, you can click on this little "Manage Figma plugins" link to get that item menu back up. You can search for another Figma plugin and install that. We can go to a different Figma plugin, so let's go to the CopyDoc Figma plugin. Another way you can save this is also from the Figma Community. For example, if we click on this item, you'll notice there's a little icon up here with a little globe icon that says "Open in the Community." Click on that, and that's basically going to open up the Figma Community page for the Figma plugin. This is under the Figma Community URL, and this is where you can browse Figma plugins.
You can see at the top here, you can actually browse the Figma plugins through the Figma Community page. I can also save it directly from this page. For example, if I click on this "Save" icon on the Figma Community page, that's going to automatically install the Figma plugin to my Figma account. If I go back to my Figma file now and close this off, then right-click, go back down to Figma plugins, go down to saved Figma plugins, you can see that the CopyDoc Figma plugin that we just saved from the Community page has now been added to our Figma plugins list in our account.
You can also remove that from the Community page as well. Just click on this little bookmark icon where it says "Remove from saves," click on that, and again, that will remove the Figma plugin from your account. It does exactly the same behavior as we saw from the "Actions" panel, but in this case, you can do it directly from the Community. If you prefer to browse the Community, you can browse through the features up here or search directly through the Community. Just click onto any of these, save it, and then it'll be available in your Figma plugins list. You can see that over here. You can also do that from Community pages.
If we go to the Hypermatic account, you can see we can browse the Figma plugins through here. Click on any of those and install it. Just click on the little bookmark, and that's going to save it instantly to our Figma plugins list. You can see we've got those two there. If we go back into our "Actions" underneath Figma plugins, you'll see a list of all the Figma plugins that we've just saved to our account. You can remove those, view the details of those, and manage them through there.
That's basically it. I just wanted to run through that in case you're wondering where the Figma plugins functionality has gone. The entire UI has been redesigned recently, so a few things have been moved around. I just wanted to cover that really quickly in case you've been wondering how to get your Figma plugins back, remove them, or manage them. Those are the two ways you can go about it. They'll always show up underneath the Figma plugins tab down here, and you'll be able to manage them as expected.
That's basically it. I'll leave it there for today and keep it really simple. Thank you, as always, for watching, and we'll be back with more Figma tutorials like this one very soon.
